Hooo boy

I dropped off for a whole month after getting sick and traveling. Being sick always makes me go “neeeh im so weak and unhappy i might as well have food i enjoy” and eat icecream.  But I’m back now, I got back on keto yesterday after being pretty weaksauce for the last month.  I also have exercised since I got sick, anything in my lungs knocks me out for a looong time.  Im picking up running again now that the weather is better.  WOO

Best Way to Cook Zucchini and Carrots
by Leah at voraciousvander.com
The trick here is roasting. Roasting at a high temp in the oven for about 20 minutes can work some serious magic. (Caramelization is always your friend.) Feel free to throw some other veggies in the mix too. Zucchini is my favorite because it takes on seasoning so well – but peppers, sweet potatoes, green beans, etc. can all be transformed in the same way.
Follow these simple steps and you’ll be on your way to making some shockingly delightful savory treats that you can feel awesome about.
1. Preheat oven to 220 C/425 F
2. Cut your veg into 8-cm/3-inch sticks, making sure they are even in thickness.
3. Line a baking tray with baking paper and a light layer of olive oil.
4. SEASON – go with the usual salt&pepper and branch out to one or two of the following (Choose Your Own Adventure-style): paprika, cumin, cayenne, crushed red peppers, thyme, rosemary, sage – really, whatever takes your fancy and suits your meal. Using premixed spice blends is a great option too – Italian, Mexican, Old Bay – you know, just not all at once.
(Today I used salt&pepper + smokey paprika and crushed red peppers.)
Lightly toss your vegetable batons with a tablespoon or so of olive oil (not too much) and the herbs and spices.
5. Spread your seasoned veg over your lined tray and roast, tossing halfway through, for about 20 minutes or until golden and slightly browned at the edges.

just wow, so much respect for them!

son of a BITCH

I’d be SO PISSED if I downloaded an action that proceeded to preach at me for the job I was doing.  First off, 90% of what designers and artists do it make the images a piece of ART. OF COURSE they beautify it. They’re making it into something fancified for print.  The skeevy 10% of images that wind up ridiculously over-processed were probably at the direction of higher-ups anyway! No Graphic Designer or photo retoucher is modifying the width of a woman’s thigh because they want to - it’s because their boss told them to!

The main problem with our fucked-up perception of beauty is the attitude that “you should look like this all the time.”  Nobody taking the photos, retouching the photos, or designing the magazine covers is thinking “women look like this all the time, right?” They fucking KNOW how much work goes into it, and the result is a piece of art that took hundreds of hours to create! The problem lies in a public mentality that can’t understand that you should not expect yourself to look like the woman on a magazine cover. The problem lies in the higher-ups who are trying to control the imagery in the media, not the creatives who do what they’re told.

Do not shit on artists doing their jobs. Do not shit on skilled people doing whatever they can to have a job in a twisted marketing world. DO NOT shit on an entire group of creative people so you can make your preachy, elitist, patronizing video. Dove is fucking with your beauty perceptions just as much as any other company, but they’re doing it while blaming someone else (as if the fucking graphic designers have any say in how heavily something is retouched! HAH).

I thought about what I wanted to know when I set out to lose weight. As fascinating as the science was, I wanted to know how to get out of the fat suit I found myself living in. So, instead of writing about macronutrients and hormones, I decided to write a simply list of guidelines which can help you to remove your fat suit too.

1. LOWER YOUR CARBS.

If I could only give you one piece of advice this would be it.

When I lowered my carbs, the fat started to melt away. I felt better, slept better and I had constant energy all day. No more afternoon slumps where I had to fight to stay awake.

The average western diet contains an average of 250g to 500g of carbohydrates a day. Lower your daily intake to between 50g and 100g a day and watch what happens (hint - it’s pretty good).

2. STAY AWAY FROM WHEAT.

Lower your carbs to the amount I have recommended you’ll find this happens without much effort. Wheat products like bread and pasta are high in carbohydrates and also contain Gluten. In simple terms, Gluten causes irritation in your digestive system and this can lead to all sorts of problems. I will go into more detail about this in a later article.

3. EAT NATURAL FOODS.

Eat meat and vegetables. Simple as that. The effect this will have on how you look and feel is worth the effort in changing the things you habitually eat. Think fresh and clean. Natural and healthy. If it comes ready made in a packet, it’s probably not the best thing to be eating if you want to escape the fat suit.

Rule of thumb: if it had a face or grew in the ground then eat it.

4. FORGET YOUR FIVE A DAY.

Contrary to conventional wisdom you won’t drop dead if you don’t eat fruit. Think of fruit as bags of sugar which grew on a plant. The sugar in fruit, known as Fructose, reacts in your body in much the same way as the sugar you put in your tea or coffee. There are vitamins and minerals in fruit but these are easily obtained from other foods. Fruit is nice to eat but if it is the main focus of your diet you need to make some changes.

Remember sugar equals carbs wherever it comes from.

5. DON’T FEAR FAT.

By lowering your carbs your diet will naturally shift towards eating more protein and fat. At first this may seem weird and even a little scary especially if you follow conventional eating advice. I have lost more than 24lbs of fat while getting over 50% of my calories from fat. I don’t get hungry between meals and have never felt deprived.

**This is a perfect recipe for weight loss!  I’m so happy to see someone else who is against the mainstream nutrition and has really done their research :)

Back to strict keto tomorrow, here we gooooooo

Tired of bein’ bloaty from carbs and ginger ale (though it does make my belly happy). Hoping my joint pain from the gluten will be 100% gone tomorrow so I can continue the 30 day shred…

Speaking of which, I only have about 10 days left. What should I do afterwards?  I really like having a video program to follow. Any suggestions?

So it’s not keto…. taking a few days to rest my unhappy celiac insides before returning to the fat-heavy keto foods. Gluten-free quinoa pasta with red peppers, shrimp, tomatoes, and parmesan.
I tried to eat regularly yesterday, keto-foods only. My gut was NOT HAVING IT. So I caved and ate a gluten free muffin and it really made me feel better. Maybe it’s just a placebo from eating saltines anytime I was sick as a kid!  Maybe carbs are good for absorbing angry stomach-acids. Either way, I’m gonna go easy on the greasy, fatty foods for a couple more days.
